they come from far away

they come from far away,
say the smiles that
share the sacred space of air
like leaves of aspen glittering
on an autumn evening.

weary souls find Comfort
in the hopes and dreams
and fears of others,
while sighs find shoulders
in seas of intimate shores.

the sun, in gleaming comfort
seeks no more than one more
mind arranging the fractured
pieces of a world that
once was still as glass

Hello friends, break some
bread with us, for
Those little things that
we call Intolerance and
Injustice dwell far far away.

chalk art, food art,
and words of poems unwritten
will protect me tonight
from the dogs of war
with undulating telescopic sight.

for all is all
to be nothing at all,
and when we leave here tonight
Time is sure to breathe a forgiving sigh.
