Gear

So I sold just about everything I own, except my musical instruments and my books. In its place, I decided to sojourn across Central and South America with just the basics.

Personally, I think this is one of the most boring and mundane pages to write. Gear, after all is entirely replaceable and in the end, I am sure this journey could go on without any of the following; it would be difficult, but definitely possible. I include this section because while I was planning for this journey, browsing through other people's gear lists and recommendations turned out to be a great help for me. As a casual, recreational cyclist, most of the intricacies of bicycle touring prior to this journey were completely foreign to me. Please use this list as a reference, not as recommendations, because surely, you will figure out your own system as you voyage along. This page is being updated from Costa Rica, roughly a third of the way into the journey, thus reflecting all the changes and modifications I have made thus far.
